What do you do when the one person you thought you knew turns out to be the one you knew the least?

Twenty-three year old Marissa Chase, and soon to be college graduate, has everything going for her: wonderful friends, a lucrative degree, and a chance to explore the world. What made it even better – or so she thought – was when her path crossed with the alluring Alec Holden. Unable to stay away from him, Marissa experiences a love like no other, and falls into his world of passion and intrigue. However, things begin to shift when this path takes a deadly turn.

Her trust is put to the test when hidden dangers unfold before her, revealing secrets that have been buried for years. Secrets that were meant to stay hidden. Murder, lies, and betrayal … will Marissa figure it all out in time and escape with her life intact, or will she be too late and fall into the trap of deception?

Review:

This isn't my first book by the author, but I have to say, I'm a bit surprised by the vengeance and raw emotion that this story has.  I'm a fan of the Fae series, so I expected more flowery, love-dove kind of emotion, but wow.  I'm so impressed by the versatility in this author.  The emotions in this book were raw and very uncensored.  The passion between characters hangs like a thick fog in the room, I'm so pleased by this story!

Now, the mystery had points where I really wanted to shake Marissa.  "Girl!  WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!  How can you not see what I see?!"  At the same time, I was only partially right with the outcome, so I suppose even if my insane ramblings at my kindle screen had caught her attention, I wouldn't have been much help. =P

Alec is a very interesting character.  Once I learned of his secret, I kinda was disappointed.  Ugh!  Not another famous-guy romance!!  At the same time, the way this was put together was so masterful that it actually worked without being "I have high hopes to snag a rich guy."  I know that's a terrible way of explaining what I mean, but that's the only way I can think of to say it. =P  I was really pleased by how it all worked out!  The story was much more intricate than landing a loaded man, which seems to be the entire storyline around some books I read. =)

This was a fun and quick read that really had me guessing until the end.  I seriously was shocked when everything finally came together at the end.  Ugh!  I really wish this was a series, because I really think that there's much more to Alec and Marissa's relationship that I'd love to hear more about. Give us book #2!
