Book Blurb:

What would you give up for everything?

Tristan Stone was powerful, commanding, sex incarnate. And he wore it all so well. From the moment his mesmerizing gaze met mine, I had no choice but surrender to everything he was. His power. His decadence. His passion. He was all I never knew I needed.

He wanted to possess me, and I wanted to be his everything. All I had to do was accept what he offered. But everything has a price.

The world he gave me fulfilled my wildest dreams, but would that be enough when the past crashed into the present?

Mama's Reading Break Readers:

Thanks so much for having me here for Crash Into Me's tour. It's great to be here!

Someone asked me the other day if writing contemporary romance was easier than the paranormal romance I'm used to writing. You see, for the past three years, I've written PNR/UF as Gabrielle Bisset and loved it (still do). But there have been a few contemporary stories rambling around my brain for a while, so I figured 2013 was a good time to let them out.

So is contemporary easier than PNR to write? In some ways, yes. My PNR/UF books in my Sons of Navarus series are about a group of eight vampires, so the storyline requires me to deal with eight characters. Now they don't all have starring roles in every book, but all of them are part of the story. Compared to that, my contemporary romance Crash Into Me is focused on two characters only—Tristan and Nina. In that way, I can say it's a little easier because I'm only dealing with two characters and their actions.

On the other hand, having only two characters means that the story is far more narrowly focused, so that's a challenge. I can't fall back on a subplot, so I have to make sure the storyline keeps moving with just those two characters driving it.

However, I'd say the most challenging aspect of writing contemporary romance is in the details. In my PNR/UF stories, I'm writing about characters who are purely fictional. The Sons are vampires and their world is entirely of my creation. Contrast that with the world of Tristan and Nina, and you see I have to be true to the details of that real world. I can't simply write about Brooklyn, New York anyway I choose. I have to get that right. The places they visit and the cars he drives all have to be researched in ways that I don't have to do for anything paranormal.

In the end, though, no book is easier or harder to write. It's a matter of crafting a story that makes readers feel something. Contemporary or paranormal, romance is at its heart about two characters (of whatever type) falling in love and overcoming all the obstacles the world puts in front of them to be together.

Thanks for letting me stop by and talk about what goes into writing romance!
